An intelligent solution
DigiFocus II uses an advanced, digital speech processing method to make speech come through more clearly.

A superior speech processor is very important when trying to improve speech understanding in difficult listening situations. This is due to the nature of speech. Words are made up of strong, low-frequency vowels and weaker, high-frequency consonants. If you lose your ability to hear consonants, you may have difficulty understanding what people say.

To help you understand speech - especially in noisy surroundings - it is not enough to simply amplify everything. This would just make already-loud sounds uncomfortably loud, and wouldn't improve your ability to hear softer sounds. Plus, the strong vowels would begin to 'mask' the weaker consonants.

Instead, DigiFocus II uses an intelligent speech processing system that gives each individual frequency its own amplification.

Digital Speech Processing
DigiFocus II begins by converting the incoming sound into a digital signal. This signal can be intelligently manipulated to compensate for your hearing loss and to bring speech into focus.

7-band precision
The digital signal is split into seven different frequency bands, to match the low and high frequencies displayed on your audiogram. DigiFocus II gives each of these bands exactly the right amount of amplification. The goal is to make soft sounds easier to hear, to control loud sounds, and to achieve the right balance between vowels and consonants.

Adaptive Speech Alignment
After splitting the incoming sound signal into seven bands, DigiFocus II applies a method called Adaptive Speech Alignment. To understand how this works, think about being momentarily blinded by oncoming headlights when driving at night. It takes a few moments before you regain your vision. Similarly, the ear can also be 'blinded' by louder, low frequency sounds, which prevent it from hearing the softer, high frequency consonants that follow.

DigiFocus II has two speech processors to control the alignment process, separating the vowels from the consonants to prevent the masking effect.

The speech processor for the vowels places them in a comfortable level making them audible but not disturbing for the consonants.

The consonants need an extra boost to be understood, so the speech processor gently moves them into the audible range to suit your personal requirements and to enable you to hear the difference between "kiss" and "fish".
