New Generation of Hearing Aids on Horizon

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

A new generation of hearing aids will offer a number of impressive features, ranging from blue tooth functions to hearing aids made for swimmers.

Millions of adults have some degree of hearing loss, and there has long been a perceived stigma against getting hearing aids - a stigma which all-too-often prevents people from getting the hearing aids they need. This new generation of small, highly functional aids is meant to win over people who might otherwise not have gotten much-needed hearing aids.

The swimmers’ aid is coated in a polymer coating which can withstand several swims a week for several months. The blue tooth one will have functions usually seen in cell phones.

If you are having hearing trouble, a high-quality hearing aid may be what you need to restore your hearing. The hearing aid experts at HearingPlanet may be able to help. Contact the hearing experts by calling 1-800-432-7669 today.

Combat Troops Experiencing Hearing Loss

Many troops coming back from Afghanistan or Iraq are reporting significant hearing loss as a result of combat operations.  The number of troops reporting hearing loss has increased as a large number of individuals are suffering hearing loss as a result of explosions and gunfire.

In particular,  improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have been a major cause of hearing loss for individuals.  Being exposed to the loud bang and blast of an IED explosion can cause serious hearing injuries to the individual.

European Commission Sets Limit for MP3 Players

Monday, December 14th, 2009

A recent mandate was issued by the European Commission in October. The issue will limit the volume that MP3 players  can emit noise at.  The maximum volume which these players can emit is 85 decibels as declared by the recent mandate.  For previous MP3 players,  volumes could exceed limits of over 120 decibels. The new limits hope to reduce the exposure of many individuals to extremely high volumes of music that could occur with previous models of MP3 players.

A major focus in the exposure of loud music has been the focus on young children’s exposure and overuse of loud noise with MP3 players.

Santa Uses Sign Language

Monday, December 7th, 2009

A recent event took place in Oklahoma in which a Santa Clause interacted with children.  What made this event important was that Santa Clause did not speak to the children,  but instead signed to them.  The event was held for children and adults with hearing loss.

Sponsors and organizers of the event state that it is important to remember the difficulties that many young children with hearing loss have to go through.  The event hoped to raise awareness and provide an opportunity for the children to sign to Santa what they want for Christmas.
