‘Greatest Generation’ Hearing Loss

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Many of the individuals a part of the ‘Greatest Generation’ have suffered significant hearing problems as a result of war.

Many individuals who served in World War 2, the Korean War, or the Vietnam war have suffered serious long-term hearing loss as a result of the combat situations.

The loud noises from guns, artillery, and other blasts have been a major contributor to the hearing problems of many individuals.

Even individuals who were not a part of the actual war have had problems as well.  Hearing safety was not a priority back then as it is now.

Hearing Aid App Released for iPhone

Monday, July 13th, 2009

A new application has been released for the iPhone, and it is being called the ‘Hearing Aid App’.  The application called soundAMP costs $9.99 and was recently released.

The application allows an individual to plug in headphone to the phone.   Sound is then recorded on the microphone built into the phone. The application then filters and makes the sound louder and clearer for the user.

The application is considered a novelty instead of a medical device.  The application would never replace a traditional hearing aid, although it could have its uses in a bind.

Noise Ordinances at Concerts

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Some cities are beginning to enforce noise ordinances at concerts and other events.  The ordinance enforced is traditionally to prevent an establishment from causing “noise pollution” in a large area.

The ordinances typically require a concert to be below a certain decibel level.  The ordinances are having the unattended side-effect of helping protect some concert-goers hearing.   When establishments are forced to have their shows at lower levels,  many people have the possibility of benefitting even if they do not realize it.

Video Games Could be Cause of Future Hearing Loss

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Children and many young adults have been increasing the amount of time spent playing video games.  The time has increased dramatically over the last few years, with many people spending multiple hours a day playing video games.  Many professionals fear that playing video games could lead to hearing loss in the future.

It has been reported that many individuals will either sit too close to a television screen or will have a video game too loud when playing.  These two factors combined together could lead to future hearing loss for many individuals.

In general,  it is recommended to keep the sound as low as possible to help protect hearing.

Concerts Causing Hearing Loss for Many Teens

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Concert enthusiasts may find themselves unable to fully appreciate a show in the future.  Many individuals who attend many concerts throughout their life may find that the damage cause can result in noticeable hearing loss.

Many individuals damage their hearing through attending loud shows and being located near a sound source. The loud sound source may not cause immediate damage,  but will help lead to a loss of hearing in the future.

If this occurs, it is important to take the steps needed to get back your hearing.  A hearing aid may be one of the solutions to hearing loss caused by concerts.
