The team provided over 2,000 hearing aids to adults and children who have had hearing problems,  but never the opportunity to correct them. This type of trip will no doubt bring joy to many individuals in the area, offering them a better quality of life by improving their hearing.

Humidity and Hearing Aids

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

The summer heat brings warm weather for many.  For individuals with hearing aids,  the warm weather and high humidity levels can mean diminished hearing.

Humidity has a negative effect on hearing aids,  causing the moisture to interfere with the ability to hear at normal levels.

When possible, try and keep the device in a container to help protect it from the moisture in the air.  If you are around a group of people, do not be embarrassed to tell them that you are having trouble because of the weather.

Use Hearing Protection When Firing Guns

Friday, June 19th, 2009

It is important that if you are ever shooting guns, that you take all the proper safety precautions in order to operate the firearm safely.

One of the important steps that you can take when operating a firearm is to wear protective ear muffs.  These protective ear muffs provide the protection from quick, loud bangs that are associated with firing a gun.  Many people report ringing in their ears after firing a gun. If this occurs, then the proper safety steps were not fully taken. Firing guns continuously without the proper protection can cause long-term damage, so take the proper steps.

The Sound of Music

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

After an individual gets a new hearing aid for the first time,  it is a unique experience.  A hearing aid will change many aspects of an individual’s life.

One of the most reported experiences an individual has after getting a hearing aid is a renewed love of music. Some people report immediately going out and buying CDs for the first time in many years after getting a hearing aid.  The ability to sit down and listen to a favorite artist or classical music is a joy that many individuals do not fully appreciate.  When someone gets their hearing back, typically they have a new appreciation for music.
