Hearing Aid Salesman Commits Fraud

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

A New York State Supreme Court Judge has ordered that a  Hearing Aid salesman must pay restitution to victims and former employees in a hearing aid scam that took place.

The man took advantage of at least 13 individuals who were attempting to purchase high quality hearing aids.  The man sold several elderly individuals the hearing aids at an extremely high cost because the hearing aids were supposed to be one of the top brands.  The hearing aids sold were actually one of the cheaper brands and of low quality.

The judge has ordered the man to pay back several thousand dollars for the scam.  The man will have to reimburse an organization over $25,000 because the organization spent that money attempting to help those who were apart of the scam.

Wisconsin Hearing Aid Bill Signed by Governor

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

The Governor of Wisconsin, Jim Doyle, has signed a bill that will make private health insurance groups provide treatment for children with hearing problems.  The bill makes private insurance groups responsible for covering the costs of hearing devices for many children and the cost of cochlear implants in some cases.

The Governor has said that this treatment program can help save money in the long run with families by providing treatment early. Further,  this bill makes it possible for low-income families to afford some of the more expensive hearing treatments for their children.  Many people also believe that this will allow children to have  the opportunity for better development of speech and hearing skills.

Wisconsin Likely to Become First State To Mandate Hearing Aids for Children

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Wisconsin now looks like it will be the first state to make it mandatory for insurance companies to cover the costs for hearing aids for children.

This will be a big step in improving the hearing for many young children who are deaf or have hearing issues.

Insurance companies have some resistance against the measure, as it will likely increase the costs that they have to associate with child care.  Many parents are happy with the idea of having the cost of hearing implants taken care of, as it can possibly improve their child’s lives and reduce their personal costs.

Hearing Aids May be Required Earlier for Many

Monday, May 18th, 2009

The current generation of technology has brought a large usage of many new devices that have never been used before.  Many people are using very loud audio equipment for their home theatres.  Many individuals listen to music all day on their iPods or on the computer with headphones.  Many times,  the individual will be listening to the music too loudly without noticing.  iPods , for example, are notorious for being listened too at too high a volume.

This type of use of electronics may be damaging the hearing of many people gradually over the course of many years.  Because of this,  a new generation of young people in their 30’s or 40’s may have to start wearing hearing aids.  If you feel that you are losing your hearing, please contact a doctor.
