Hearing Aid Users' Rights

Finding the right hearing aid for you can be difficult; there are so many different models to choose from and so much information to sort through. Unfortunately, some people suffer additional complications when they are taken in by misleading or outright fraudulent information. Both the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) enforce regulations meant to protect the rights of hearing aid users.

If you need straightforward and reliable information about hearing loss and its possible solutions, HearingPlanet is here for you. Our network of qualified hearing aid specialists offers information about established national hearing aid brands, and referrals to licensed audiologists near you. Call us at 1-800-432-7669.

Know Your Hearing Aid Rights

As a hearing aid user, it is important to know your rights so that you can speak up if you suspect fraud or other forms of mistreatment. Federal law secures certain rights for you, such as:

  • The choice to undergo a physical exam before purchasing a hearing aid. If you are over 18, you can waive this right. However, it is illegal for hearing aid companies to coerce you into waiving it, or try to convince you that it is unimportant.
  • Access to information about your hearing aid. The device should come with a brochure detailing its proper use and care. It should also include information about repairs and resources that can help you cope with problems that may arise.
  • Protection from fraud. If a hearing aid company gives you incorrect information about the effectiveness of its products, their warranties, trial periods, or refunds, you may file a complaint with the FTC.

Many states have additional regulations for hearing aid sales. Your state's Attorney General's office should be able to refer you to organizations that can explain these regulations.

Testimonial

Dear Grant,

I just want to thank you again for the absolutely excellent level of support you have provided to me in my search for hearing aids. As you know, when I called, I really was only gathering information and had no intention on committing to purchase any time in the immediate future. However your friendly one-on-one support with my questions, concerns and possible issues quickly won me over to make you and HearingPlanet my first choice as a provider...

Best Regards,
